Does having old windows mean they are unsafe and do I need to pay for a house full of brand new windows? What is the importance of window safety and servicing?

Are your old windows putting your home's safety at risk?

Having old windows does not automatically mean they're unsafe, and having unsafe windows doesn't necessarily mean they need to be replaced.

Confused? Don't be! We believe in cost-effective solutions, not just selling new windows. If your windows can be brought back to life with new handles, hinges, some new glass, and some safety upgrades, it works out cheaper than replacing the whole window and can be just as effective.

What is the importance of window safety and servicing?

I've done some research into this, and it's grim reading for those who leave that broken hinge or handle unattended:

  • 30% of all UK home burglaries involve entry through a window.

  • Damaged or loose frames and windows reduce the effectiveness of locks.

As stated by the Northern Ireland Executive:

“If your door or window frames are damaged or parts are coming away… good locks are useless.”

What this means is if you have bad handles, mechanisms, or hinges, they cannot be doing an effective job at keeping a sound structure. If they were to be put under some pressure by a potential intruder, rather than stay together to deter the attack, they may give way and allow an intruder into your home. Some people can't even shut windows properly if the hinges or handles are not working, which is giving an intruder free entry.

Homeowners may put this to the back of their minds because of the cost of new windows, but why not look into replacement parts to make your home safe again for a fraction of the cost?

Cost-Effective Solutions

Here at The Window & Door Safety and Servicing Company, we also provide safety glass and laminated safety glass to minimize entry points for a potential intruder. We also offer A* rated glass in a huge range of patterns.

There are other security catches and latches that can be added to your existing wooden and uPVC windows to give them an added level of security and give you peace of mind for a low cost.

We can't always find parts to fit some old windows, but it's free for a member of our team to look into that for you, and there is no obligation to take it any further than just a free friendly chat.

If you feel your windows are letting out heat, gaskets and plastic are worn or discolored, and it's obvious they need to be replaced, we can offer some of the best frames on the market with a Secured by Design and PAS24 accreditation and A rated double glazing in a range of different styles and colors.

If you have any questions, speak to a member of our friendly team. All chats are welcome. Send us photos, ask us questions, get us to come and have a look—Free! And no pressure to take it any further.

Your safety matters to us, and we will always try to keep that cost down!
